Service Description

5-week course $295 About this Series: In this 5 week's course, you will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel. Absolute beginners and those who are returning to ceramics after a long break will get the most value from this class, though artists of all levels are welcome. Week 1: Introduction Studio tour, wedging, and centering on the wheel. In this first class, you are not trying to make a vessel to keep, but rather just exploring your relationship with the clay. Week 2: Centering A second practice with wedging and centering. This week, you will aim to make and keep a vessel to be trimmed the following week. Week 3: Trimming You will refine your vessel(s) by a process known as trimming, where excess clay is removed. Week 4: Practice / Make-Up Day Practice what you have been learning the past 3 weeks with an instructor by your side. We receive too many student requests for make-up classes for our small team to accommodate. Thank you for understanding that this class will serve as the make-up for any students who have to miss another class. Week 5: Glazing The pieces that you trimmed on week three will be ready for glazing by your last session. Your instructor will teach you the fundamentals of brush-on glazing, and you will glaze the pieces that are ready. Independent Studio Day Pass This will be done when your last vessels are out of the bisque firing at your own time usually 2-3 weeks after. Most of the time, pieces that you make after Week 3/4 will not be ready before glaze day, but that is why you get a glazing studio pass. Studio Pass Access During 5 Week Course (Additional $50 option at Check Out) This means you get access to the studio outside class hours. It runs during our open studio hours At Artillery, we center our practices in three simple, but powerful core values: Nature, Culture, and Family. We connect to and honor all Indigenous Cultures We activate our connection with the Earth and preserve nature We grow and empower our BIPOC Community through the arts What to bring - All clay, tools, equipment, and aprons will be provided. - Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, &dress warmly; our studio tends to be on the colder side. - Water and snacks, if you want! - A spirit of patience–you’ll likely be trying something brand new, which can be frustrating in the beginning.
