Start Your Home Ceramics Practice: A Ritual with Earth, Fire, and Gratitude || San Francisco Pottery Studio Resources
An offering from the heart
There’s something sacred about making space for you.
For your hands to touch the earth.
For your creative self to have space to be and play again.
For your community to view something inside of you come to life.
For us, working with clay isn’t just about making pottery —it’s about remembering.
Remembering where we come from, what sustains us, and how creativity can be a form of activating our intentions.
At Artillery AG + Ceramics in collaboration with Mindful Ceramics, we believe clay connects us back to the four elements — Earth, Water, Air, and Fire — and to the deep wisdom within each of us.
This practice is accessible to everyone, no matter where you live. You don’t need a wheel, fancy tools, or a kiln — just curiosity, intention, and a little bit of clay from the lands you inhabit.

Your Home Studio Can Be Simple + Sacred + Upcyled
You don’t need to buy everything new. In fact, this practice invites you to slow down and use what’s already around you — to see the sacred in the ordinary.
Here are a few of our favorite upcycled tools:
✨ Two sticks + floss = your wire cutter
🧺 A smooth bottle = your rolling pin
🌊 An old cloth or piece of clothing = your perfect clay buddy
🌿 A wooden board or canvas cloth = your workspace
🕯 A toothpick = your needle tool
It’s not about perfection — it’s about connection. Every piece you create becomes a reflection of your own hands, your rhythm, your breath, your ancestors.
💫 In our Free Home Studio Starter Kit, you’ll get a full checklist of tools to upcycle, workspace ideas, and a ritual to begin your creative journey.

Forage Clay, Forage Meaning
If you’re called to go even deeper, try foraging for your own clay.
Walk your neighborhood, your beach, or the rivers near you. Notice the colors of the soil, the way it feels in your hands. Harvest a little with gratitude and don’t forget to offer something in return. Whether that is a physical something or a song/ words etc. — that’s your first offering to the element of Earth.
Our Clay Foraging + Guided Hike Workshop is a perfect way to begin this journey before you hop into Shaping Rituals, our new online course. You’ll learn to find, process, and hand-build with your own local clay — no need to buy any. Just come with curiosity and a intention for connection.
Clay as Ritual
When we shape clay, we’re shaping stories. Each pinch and coil holds a little bit of our intention, a little bit of memory.
The element of Fire teaches transformation — it’s how soft clay becomes something strong and lasting for generations to come.
In our upcoming online course, Shaping Ritual: Ceramics for Reflection & Connection, you’ll learn to create your own traveling gratitude altar — a ceramic vessel to carry your intentions anywhere you go.
Later this year, we’ll journey even deeper with The Four Elements Altar, where you’ll create a full altar for Earth, Water, Air, and Fire.
